SJG EDITING

Stephanie Grant is a deeply collaborative editor with two decades of experience helping writers refine their stories, essays and book manuscripts across diverse genres. Her editing services can help improve the shape of your work as a whole (developmental editing) or sharpen your prose down to the sentence level (line editing).

As a developmental editor, Stephanie will read an early draft to help you clearly conceptualize your project and the connection of its parts. She works with writers to identify the right “container” for their narratives.  She understands structure as an expressive element of fiction and non-fiction – as expressive as language itself – and works to match the writer’s unique voice with a narrative container that reveals and intensifies meaning.

As a line editor, Stephanie will work with a more finished manuscript to help bring the your writing to greater clarity, precision and beauty. She has a keen ear for rhythms and music of prose, deep knowledge of sentence structure, and a deep respect for the individuality of every writer’s voice. The project of line editing explores possibilities at the level of paragraph, sentence, phrase: the constituents of prose.

I edit manuscripts spanning a wide array of genres:

  • literary fiction

  • young adult fiction

  • creative nonfiction

  • general nonfiction

  • academic writing.
