SJG EDITING

Stephanie Grant is a deeply collaborative editor with two decades of experience helping writers refine stories, essays, and book manuscripts across diverse genres. Her editing services can help improve the shape of your work as a whole (developmental editing) or sharpen your prose at the sentence level (line editing).

As a developmental editor, Stephanie will read an early draft to help you clearly conceptualize your project and the relation of its parts. She works with writers to identify the right “container” for their narratives, with the understanding that structure is an expressive element of fiction and non-fiction alike – as expressive as language itself.  She takes special pleasure in helping to match the writer’s unique voice with a narrative container that reveals and intensifies meaning.

As a line editor, Stephanie will work with a more finished manuscript to help bring your writing to greater clarity, precision, and beauty. She has a keen ear for the rhythms and music of prose, deep knowledge of sentence structure, and a writer’s respect for the individuality of voice. Stephanie’s line editing attends to the nuances of sound and meaning at the level of sentence, phrase, and punctuation.
